Therapy sessions are an hour in length. The clinician may touch base with the parents at the beginning of the session to see if there are any updates they should be aware of, and then the majority of the session is spent one-on-one with the child/teen. In general, the information shared with the clinician is kept confidential and the child/teen must give their clinician permission to share information with parents. The clinician will make recommendations about what information they think is important for parents to know and parents will be kept updated on the progress that is being made. There are instances where the clinician is required and allowed to break confidentiality. Please see the section on ‘confidentiality’ for more information. The limits of confidentiality will be explained in depth during the first session.
Assessment testing sessions range from 1-2 hours depending on the age and attention span of the child.
